AGM 2019

2019 TSSC Year Report 20.11.19

Starting as usual with the Smugglers run and lunch, thanks to Allan & Jackie for this.

February run was postponed for a week because of the weather but we eventually had a nice but wet run to the Sportsmans near Dartmouth. That was when we unveiled our new Devon Area flags, thanks to Nigel for designing and sourcing them.

March run was thanks to Steve Woollett – the weather was not his fault – but coffee and lunch at the Salmons Leap made up for it!

April run was to the Cat & Fiddle near Exeter. Great carvery and run beforehand thanks to Ian & Karen with help from Allan & Jackie. Pub a little busy! Nigel, Andy from North Devon and I made the journey up to Lubenham in Leicestershire for the Club’s AGM, and to my huge surprise I was awarded the trophy for Club Member of the Year. Drive it Day was a get together at the vintage Fairground at Lifton. A lot of cars out from Devon and Cornwall.

May saw us journey to the Isle of Wight once again, and apart from me, those who gained speeding tickets in Dorset shall remain unnamed! A great weekend on the Island again, which is now part of Devon’s traditions. Shows began in May too with Killerton, Collaton St Mary and Pecorama.

June was the now annual Camping / Caravanning weekend at the lovely little site Southfork, organized by Colin from Cornwall, and more shows. One of the highlights had to be the Triumphant wedding of Ian and Karen McCabe with wedding cars provided by Shaun and Colin in matching yellows.

July of course was Powderham, bigger and better each year, and this time we paraded nearly all models of Herald in the ring to celebrate the 60th birthday of our base model. And more shows!

August saw the return of a brilliant International show, organized jointly with the TR Register at Stratford upon Avon racecourse. Over 1000 Triumphs there, particularly on the Saturday. It has now been confirmed as the venue again, 15 and 16 August. I’d love to see a big representation from Devon as we used to in the ‘old days’. Not too far to go and lots to do if you have non-car minded other halves.

In September, Peter, Vicky and daughter Ali very kindly organized a run from Kingsbridge, ending with a BBQ at Cornworthy, a really lovely day and a big thank you to them. They have even offered to do it again! Mid September was the re-run of Steve’s Dartmoor run, and it rained again.

October took us over to Hatherleigh for the start of our Treasure Hunt organized by the Northcott family. Their usual thought provoking clues, and ending for lunch at Lydford. Winners were Rob Lingard and son James, whilst the wooden spoon went to North Devon!

November was Jon Chartres’ run from Yelverton. Once we had gathered all together including those who were at the wrong Rock, we had an enjoyable run up to the Farm Shop at Lifton for a cream tea or a more substantial meal. Last weekend a good number of us joined the Stag Owners and Dolomite Club for another Skittles match at the Waie Inn at Zeal Monachorum. We actually won this one, JUST, and as usual had a great time. Our Nige was almost the lowest scorer but in the end that went to Steve from the Dolly Club.

Last run for the year is up to Moretonhampstead Motor Museum on Sunday 1 December, then our Christmas meal on 7 December, and then Club Night on Wednesday 18 December, when we say thank you and farewell to the incomparable host here at the Claycutters. Thank you Brian and good luck in your next venture – we will miss you.

Finally, a big thank you to Nigel as our Co-Area Organiser, and the voice of my conscience, and to all of you lovely members for the support you have shown this year, and for the last however many years. We could not do it without you all.

Welcome to the TSSC Devon Area Web Site

***Read the 2019 AGM***

Welcome to the website for the Devon area of the Triumph Sports Six Club (TSSC). The TSSC was initially formed to cater for the small chassis Triumphs such as the Herald, Vitesse, Spitfire and GT6, but in more recent years has broadened its membership to incorporate all Triumph models.

The Devon area is a very active group of TSSC members, enthusiastically run by Area Organisers Sue & John Franklin. There is a very busy calendar of events throughout the year plus monthly meetings at the Claycutters Arms, Chudleigh Knighton.

Due to the large geographical area of Devon, in May 2015 we launched a North Devon sub-group, this is run by Darren Groves with a monthly meeting at The Crealock Arms, Littleham.

This website contains lots of information about forthcoming and past events, technical articles, members’ cars, area reports and much more.

So if you own or are thinking of owning a Triumph and want more information on club membership, then please visit the official TSSC website. If you’re already a member but want to find out more about what your local area is doing, then please go to our contact page and send us a message.
